Dental Hygienist at Michigan Medicine Job Summary

Provide direct oral health care to patients by scaling, polishing, flossing and brushing teeth. Evaluate and record oral conditions, complete dental prophylaxis, scaling and root planing procedures with or without local anesthesia, and administer care modifications including patient monitoring and behavioral interventions. Document treatment rendered and facilitate any necessary dental treatment in collaboration with dental residents and faculty providers. Provide oral hygiene instruction for patients, families and caregivers on proper dental care and diet for good dental health. Analyze, compare, and evaluate various courses of action and make independent decisions on matters of significance within scope of responsibilities. Participate in meaningful research projects in collaboration with the School of Dentistry and Michigan Medicine. Base Pay Range

$71,876.00/yr - $104,336.00/yr Responsibilities

Specialize in the management of patients with medical complexity and/or special healthcare needs, focusing on underserved populations with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Screen patients during routine oral health recall appointments. Review patient health history. Perform preventive dental care, including prophylaxis, scaling and root planing procedures with or without local anesthetic and modifications to care. Obtain and process dental radiography. Record evaluation of oral conditions and periodontal charting in the electronic health records to facilitate collaboration with dental residents and faculty in patient care and treatment planning. Advise and instruct patients on proper dental care and diet for good dental health. Room patients, clean and disinfect dental hygiene instruments, maintain work area, and advise dental assistants on supply needs. Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited program in Dental Hygiene. Passed the National Board of Dental Hygiene exam. Valid Registered Dental Hygienist Licensing for the state of Michigan. BLS certification. 1 to 2 years of experience in the dental field. Primary Source Verification required. Desired Qualifications

Knowledge of university policies, practices, and regulations. Work Schedule

This position is 32 hours per week with the intention of eventually becoming full-time. Additional Information

General supervision is received from a licensed Dentist or other designated official. Physical requirements: moderate standing/walking, lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients. Union Affiliation
