Responsibilities

Assist in all aspects of patient care in partnership with administrative and clinical staff across multiple Florida Medical Practice Plan practices.

Maintain confidentiality of all personal health information and ensure compliance with federal, state, and practice policies.

Perform intake for patients, including accurate histories, vital signs, vision/hearing screens, and other screenings or questionnaires as needed.

Set up and assist providers with exams and procedures; give injections and handle minor procedures such as specimen collection, casting, splinting, and dressing application.

Participate in motivational interviewing and self-management support techniques.

Triage patient phone calls and provide in-basket management support for clinicians.

Notify patients of test results and follow-ups; manage patient expectations and resolve concerns independently.

Shoot diagnostic testing and obtain prior authorizations as needed.

Serve as medical scribe for assigned clinician as needed, documenting visits in real time and completing clinical notes, orders, and procedures for review.

Assist with clerical duties and tasks to improve provider productivity and clinic workflow as assigned.

Administrative Duties

First point of contact for patients who walk in or call to schedule an appointment.

Schedules patient healthcare appointments for multiple clinics using facility protocols to determine appropriate placement of patients based on presenting problem.

Answers all calls according to practice policies and procedures in a timely and professional manner.

Verifies patient insurance eligibility status and registers patient in Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

Greets patients, ensures insurance, pro-certifications, and prior authorizations are correctly entered; collects copayments and balances at the time of service.

Balances and closes batches daily with 100% accuracy; demonstrates knowledge of third-party payers, billing, accounts receivable functions and payment codes.

Attends scheduled departmental meetings, in-service presentations, training, and mandatory education programs; promotes an atmosphere of teamwork.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED with two years of work experience (post-high school education can substitute experience at an equivalent rate).

Valid Certified Medical Assistant Certification or Registration (CMA, NCMA, RMA, or CCMA).

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Certification issued by a certifying agency.

Experience demonstrating effective customer service skills and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Experience performing accurately in a detail-oriented environment and prioritizing, organizing, and performing multiple work assignments simultaneously.

Experience utilizing problem solving skills and computer applications such as Electronic Health Records (EHR), Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, perform basic mathematical calculations, and perform assigned responsibilities with minimal to moderate supervision.

Post-job offer requirements: documentation of current PPD test and physical examination completed within the past six months.

Within 30 days of hire: provide documentation of Tetanus immunization within 10 years, Hepatitis B vaccine or positive antibody titer.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of available medical resources and terminology.

Experience with collection and/or cash handling procedures and the ability to perform monetary transactions.

ABR-OE credentials highly preferred.

Experience preparing clear and concise reports, procedures, correspondence, and other written materials.

Considerations This is an OPS/temporary job. Based on the duties, this position may require completion of a criminal history background check, to include fingerprinting. Part-time, at least 16 hours/week. May be required to work late one evening per week. Applications to be reviewed on a weekly basis.
