Required Qualifications
One year of recent experience as a Labor and Delivery RN
Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations
Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)
NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
Preferred Qualifications
AWHONN Fetal Monitoring Certification
STABLE and ACLS Certifications (AHA/ARC)
Other relevant certifications and licenses
Summary of Responsibilities The Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse provides comprehensive patient care in the obstetric setting.
Essential Work Functions
Communicate labor and delivery procedures to patients and families
Administer prescribed medications and treatments according to obstetric nursing protocols
Prepare equipment and assist physicians during labor, delivery, and examinations
Provide immediate postpartum care, including assessment and stabilization of mother and newborn
Educate patients and families on postpartum recovery, breastfeeding, and newborn care
Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and other team members
Respond to obstetric emergencies (e.g., preeclampsia, hemorrhage, fetal distress) using evidence‑based protocols
Document patient care, assessments, and interventions accurately in the medical record
Participate in quality improvement initiatives
Perform fetal monitoring and interpret results
Assist in cesarean sections and other obstetric procedures
Comply with all regulatory standards, hospital policies, state laws, and federal guidelines for obstetric nursing care
Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of labor and delivery nursing
Required Essential Skills
Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills
Proficient in written and spoken English
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, and PC skills
Physical ability to remain stationary, move equipment (50–100 lbs), push, pull, and bend
Interpersonal skills: work effectively with diverse personnel with a positive attitude
Technical/motor skills: fine manipulation, assist with procedures, operate equipment
Mental resilience under pressure, ability to work under supervision or independently, handle irregular schedules and maintain concentration
Visual acuity and effective communication
