Job Summary
The Department of Respiratory Therapy at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking an hourly/per-diem Respiratory Therapist II. The successful candidate will:
Provide respiratory care for patients under the direction of a physician. Make rounds to determine if patient is receiving proper respiratory care. Conduct ventilator management. Draw and analyze blood for arterial blood gases. Record the respiratory status of all patients. Assist physicians in ventilating patients who can not sustain their own respiratory function during cardio-respiratory arrests. Respond to all cardiac arrests and rapid response calls (may include L&D for high risk deliveries). Provide sputum induction. Administer Nitric Oxide Therapy. Explain the use of respiratory care devices to patients and/or family members and assist in the use thereof. Make entries in patient's electronic medical record. Assist with education of other disciplines such as nursing and house staff. Clean and decontaminate equipment once removed from patient use. Provide chest physio-therapy and assist in pulmonary lavage/suctioning. Will provide coverage as needed to all age groups and patient care areas (dependent on experience and certifications).
Required Qualifications
Associate of Applied Science in Respiratory Therapy or graduate of a 2-year AMA approved Respiratory Therapy program. Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT). New York State Respiratory Therapist Licensure. BLS (to be obtained within 1-year of employment). NRP required to work NICU.
Preferred Qualifications
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred.
