Alcorn State University is seeking a Dean for the School of Education & Psychology. The incumbent serves as the principal academic officer, responsible for academic, personnel, financial, and administrative affairs of the school.
Job Summary The incumbent ensures that school programs align with university mission and strategic priorities while providing leadership in teaching, research, program development, advancement, and representation.
Essential Job Functions
Articulate vision for practice, education, and research in education and psychology.
Provide leadership for undergraduate and graduate education.
Coordinate curriculum reviews and recommend revisions to the Provost/VP for Academic Affairs.
Serve as authority on elementary, secondary, and special education; maintain databases on student assessments.
Work with department chairs to identify and recommend qualified personnel for vacancies.
Analyze enrollment patterns, develop growth plans, and recommend staffing.
Recommend hiring, promotion, tenure, salary, and termination of departmental chairs.
Prepare and recommend divisional budgets.
Ensure effective faculty schedules and submit to Provost/Senior VP.
Promote professional growth and development of faculty and staff.
Support faculty in grantsmanship, research, and public service.
Maintain quality control for student graduation requirements.
Ensure effective student advising systems.
Recruit strong students for teacher education program.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of university regulatory and accrediting bodies.
Knowledge of mission, philosophy, and culture of Alcorn State University.
Knowledge of federal and private grant management.
Experience with outcomes-based education and learner-centered pedagogy.
Proficiency in budgeting and resource development.
Success in team building, staff development, and conflict resolution.
Strong organizational, time management, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
Cross-cultural communication and multicultural competence.
Leadership that maintains departmental respect.
Program development with diverse student, faculty, and staff.
Teaching and curriculum development at graduate level.
Ability to expand alumni, student, and community networks for recruitment and fundraising.
Qualifications
Record commensurate with appointment to rank of Associate or Professor; administrative and budgetary experience at department chair, associate dean, dean level.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching, service, scholarship, and research; publication record.
Increasingly responsible leadership and supervisory experience in higher education.
Experience in strategic planning, program development, and evaluation of teacher education.
Evidence of innovative learning theory application.
Experience with branch campus and distance learning.
