Ultrasound Technologist (Full-time)

Performs a full range of diagnostic ultrasound imaging/therapeutic services and associated patient care supporting the Radiology Department mission to provide diagnostic information for the treatment of patients.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduate of a Medical Imaging program.
Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Plans and performs imaging procedures to produce sonographic medical images for the diagnosis or treatment of patients meeting departmental standards.
Maintains appropriate knowledge, technical competencies, and adherence to accreditation and licensing requirements.
Reviews physician requests and consults with sonologist or referring physician when necessary.
Produces images of optimal quality and maintains confidentiality of all Protected Health Information.
Assesses patient needs related to comfort, hygiene, and range of motion and provides support accordingly.
Educates patients regarding sonographic procedures and answers questions.
Promotes a team approach by interacting positively with technical, support, nursing, residents, and medical staff.
Engages in problem solving, crisis management and system implementation to support efficient, high quality, cost‑effective patient care.
Functions as a clinical instructor, meeting educational standards, evaluating and documenting student performance.
Maintains professional development in sonographic imaging and techniques, participates in in‑house training, and applies learned skills.
Demonstrates imaging techniques, patient care, and guest‑relation behaviors in accordance with ARDMS Code of Ethics, WVUH policies, and regulatory guidelines.
Reports equipment failures immediately and performs high‑level disinfection of ultrasound equipment per department policy.
Physical Requirements
Differentiates various shades of gray on a black‑and‑white monitor.
Stands and walks for six to seven hours a day.
Lifts, pushes, or pulls up to 50 pounds.
Pushes ultrasound machines for portable exams.
Working Environment
Clinical setting.
Skills and Abilities
Ability to follow written and verbal directions in English.
Works effectively with people using a teamwork approach.
Prioritizes work tasks and multitasks efficiently.
Sonographer Clinical Ladder This system‑wide program outlines advancement opportunities based on experience, education, and certification. Requirements for each level are listed below:
Level 1:
No experience required. All sonographers with less than 12 months of experience enter here.
Level 2:
Meets Level 1 requirements; one year of experience; full competency in Skill Set Tech 1.
Level 3:
Meets Level 2 requirements; three years of experience; one continuing education pathway; compliance in three leadership/supervisory skills; full competency in Skill Set Tech 1 & 2.
Level 4:
Meets Level 3 requirements; five years of experience; one continuing education pathway; compliance in five leadership/supervisory skills; full competency in Skill Set Tech 1–3.
