Therapist – Master’s level Mental Health Practitioner
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
To provide counseling services to clients with a substance use disorder and their impacted family members and significant others. REPORTS TO:
Clinic Director or Supervisor SUPERVISES:
N/A I. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaboratively develop treatment plans with assigned clients. Provide trauma-informed, evidence-based treatment to clients in accordance with clinical privileges and prepare all materials for clinical records. Involve significant others in treatment, as indicated. Provide comprehensive assessments. Refer clients to other clinical personnel for evaluative services. Provide referrals for case management services or perform case management if no case manager is assigned. Prepare referral materials for clients to access community resources such as SPA services, housing, case management, vocational services, etc. Prepare reports requested by referring agencies. Participate in staff meetings, in-service training, and team consultations. Comply with agency and OASAS policies, procedures, and regulations. Participate in training and incorporate evidence-based treatments into clinical services. Provide in-home therapy sessions, as appropriate and indicated. Administer and score screening instruments for alcohol, drug use, gambling, and nicotine assessment. Accept other assignments as requested by the Clinic Supervisor or Director. II. QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters Degree in Behavioral Health (MSW, MFT, MHC) and licensed by New York State, with at least one year of clinical experience in the chemical dependence field. For social workers, LMSW is acceptable, but LCSW is preferred. MSW candidates must have a Limited Permit until licensure is obtained. III. RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS:
Be a team player. Have sensitivity to cultural differences among staff and clients. Believe in people’s ability to grow and recover from substance abuse. Set limits and maintain professional boundaries, intervening appropriately when necessary. IV. WORKING CONDITIONS:
