Occupational Therapist | PRN (Healthcare)
Evaluate patients within twenty-four (24) hours or one business day of physician referral. If unable to complete the evaluation in 24 hours, document the reason for delay in the medical record. Develop an effective treatment plan and obtain approval from the referring physician. Treat patients according to the physician’s treatment plan.
Assist the nursing department with training Restorative Aides. Supervise Occupational Therapy Assistants in direct patient care and related activities, following state practice act guidelines. Communicate patient progress, issues, and plans with supervisors and team members.
Participate in Patient Care Conferences, Utilization Review meetings, and Rehabilitation Conferences as needed. Conduct in-service training for staff. Document evaluations, treatment notes, progress notes, and recertification information in compliance with Occupational Therapy Board State Practice Act and payer requirements. Record treatment changes per policies and procedures.
Instruct patients’ families and nursing staff in maintenance programs and caregiver training to prepare for discharge. Participate in discharge planning. Recommend and facilitate ordering necessary durable medical equipment, such as braces, walkers, canes, elevated toilet seats, and grab bars, to promote independence.
Report equipment issues to ensure proper maintenance. Demonstrate positive, effective, and appropriate interactions with patients, families, staff, and colleagues.
Supervisory Requirements:
Supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs), aides, and students.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy; Master’s or Doctorate preferred.
Proficient in computer skills, including Casamba and Point Click Care.
Licensed as an Occupational Therapist in the state; must maintain licensure.
Ability to read technical procedures, policies, and respond effectively to questions.
Ability to apply mathematical concepts and solve practical problems.
Ability to interpret instructions in various formats.
Physical Demands:
Frequent standing, walking, reaching, talking, and smelling; occasional sitting, climbing, stooping, and lifting over 100 pounds.
Work Environment:
Low to moderate noise levels; accommodations available for disabilities.
