General funds, to begin approximately August 2025, pending availability of funds and actual staffing requirements. Position may be converted from 9 to 11 months or 11 to 9 months based on operational needs.
Duties and Responsibilities: Under general supervision, teach courses associated with the introduction to the profession of nursing and allied health. Teach nursing courses in the Associate Degree Nursing and the Practical Nursing Programs and supervise student clinical experience in one or more of the following areas: mental health nursing, fundamentals, adult health nursing, long term care, family health nursing (i.e. obstetrics, pediatrics etc.). Perform related duties as assigned. Instruct, demonstrate, and supervise students in skills practice, high fidelity patient simulations, computer mediated instruction, and presentations. Workload involves in-person teaching but may include various off-campus locations islandwide, day or evening classes, weekend classes, and distance education classes using multiple teaching methodologies as assigned. Ensures all federal, state and university safety regulations and practices are promoted and followed to ensure a safe learning environment. Prepares and revises course outcomes and participates in Nursing curriculum planning and assessment. Prepares, revises, and assesses course objectives and student learning outcomes at the course, program and college levels. Plans, organizes and carries out instructional and non-instructional assignments, including program assessment and reviews. Maintains a minimum of one office hour, in person, per week for each course taught. Conducts academic advising of students and assists in campus-related student activities. Mentors and advises students. Develops and maintains an approved program of professional self-improvement activities. Participates in department, college and community service, including but not limited to committee and recruitment activities as appropriate. Assists with/participates in campus related activities and in-service training. Engages in public service and professional/scholarly activities related to the profession. Demonstrated commitment to community college mission. Maintains current certifications if applicable. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Nursing with at least one year of hospital experience in one of the areas of teaching responsibility. (Preferably this experience will have been gained within the last five years of date of application.) Registered nurse eligible for Hawai’i State License. License required by effective date of employment. If qualified applicants are not available, others will be considered on an acting instructor basis. Desirable Qualification: Education in curriculum development, evaluation, or teaching methods, or related experience in the above. Evidence of successful teaching of nursing in a college setting. Demonstrated ability to work with community college students. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a multicultural healthcare community. Ability to include writing assignments and critical thinking as part of the students’ learning experience. Willingness and ability to instruct using technology. Experience teaching nursing students in the clinical setting. Experience with patient simulations. Experience with computer mediated instruction. Clinical currency in area of expertise. Willingness and ability to teach all areas in nursing and as needed for the nursing program. Demonstrated commitment and/or experience supporting the success of students. Application Submission:
