Bastrop, TX SpaceX was founded to enable human life on Mars and to explore the stars. SpaceX is developing a low-latency, broadband internet system to meet global needs. Starlink will provide fast, reliable internet to populations with little or no connectivity, including rural and underserved areas. Position

Working directly in the materials engineering group, this position manages a technical project for the development and qualification of equipment, tooling, and manufacturing process technologies to produce plastic injection molds and high-pressure die cast tools. The successful candidate will challenge conventional approaches and apply a logical, disciplined approach to select optimal solutions. Responsibilities

Develop in-house machining capability for the tool & die team and deliver high-quality precision piece parts for internal tooling Analyze parts and assemblies for DFM to optimize manufacturing and assembly Create collaborative plans with design engineering, upstream production, and support teams; maintain strong supplier and customer relationships Collaborate with manufacturing and design engineers, machinists, technicians, and quality personnel to ensure robust processes and quick resolution of production issues Implement machining process controls to enable lights-out production; leverage latest technologies to reduce in-cycle intervention Identify, procure, and install machine shop equipment; ensure equipment is maintained and calibrated Support cost optimization and reduction initiatives related to fabrication and processes Develop and manage engineering capacity, schedules, and project plans to support production and diverse R&D demand Research and identify new materials, manufacturing technologies, and finishing options Inform estimates of prototype and production manufacturing costs (tooling, secondary assembly, finishing, and part costs) Publish and maintain detailed schedules for development projects Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, materials engineering, or other engineering discipline 3+ years of experience with CNC machining Preferred Skills and Experience

Master’s degree or PhD in an engineering discipline Strong to expert level 3D CAD skills, including advanced surfacing and large assemblies Experience with Siemens NX Experience transitioning products from design to manufacturing and scaling to high volume within a cross-functional team Experience with injection molding, CNC, die casting, stamping, assembly, and box build in production; understanding cost, schedule, and complexity of each process Additional Requirements

Willingness to travel to other SpaceX sites and/or vendors for extended periods (~30% travel; more during urgent campaigns) Ability to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted Standing/walking for long periods Willingness to work long hours and weekends as necessary for manufacturing and test campaigns Compliance with U.S. export regulations; candidate must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, or eligible to obtain required authorizations SpaceX is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
