Psychiatric/DD Nurse (FT/PT) at Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities. What You’ll Do
Under the direction of the Psychiatric/DD Nurse Director, assume primary nursing responsibility for assigned residents. Responsibilities may include nursing treatment planning, verification and review of physician orders, chart audits, self-medication plans, human sexuality programs, medical administration, infection control, physical assessments, and health care related scenario programs. Participate in related meetings as required by the Supervisor and communicate medical information to parents/guardians when appropriate. Fill in for psychiatric meetings as necessary and work with physicians on a rotating basis (e.g., setting up charts, verifying orders). Process physician orders (e.g., labs, x-rays, medical appointments), enter orders into computerized records, and communicate changes in resident status to the interdisciplinary team. Schedule follow-up care and communicate medical appointments to relevant staff. Assess and review preventative health screening forms and ensure quarterly physical exams are completed. Assist in feeding, grooming, and self-care. Evaluate client and staff injuries, administer and record first aid, and respond to medical emergencies as needed. Monitor health care charts in living areas to ensure proper follow-up and continuity of care. Serve as a member of the interdisciplinary team and submit reports to the supervisor (e.g., IPP input, chart audits, psychotropic medication reviews, self-medication inputs, physical assessments). Develop, implement, and evaluate client self-medication programs. Provide health teaching and direction to family, staff, and clients as directed. Assist in orienting and training new staff. Conduct in-service training sessions. Provide clinical oversight to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). Perform other related duties as assigned (e.g., input on Unusual Incident Reports, nursing shift reports, maintenance and security of the drug cupboard). What’s In It For You
