Under the direct supervision of the Nurse Administrator/Nurse Manager, observes, assesses, plans, intervenes and evaluates outcomes and documents all aspects of patient care. Possesses knowledge regarding the patient population to be served. May coordinate scheduling within assigned areas. Provides primary proactive management for service area during assigned shift with a supervisory manner. Supervises, counsels, and evaluates other nursing staff. Collaborates with Nurse Coordinator, other Nurse Managers, and MH Supervisor/Specialist to ensure 24-hour continuity of care. Assumes duties of the Nurse Coordinator during absence. Flexible in work schedule. Broad latitude for initiative and independent judgment. Provides direct nursing care to individual patients as needed. Understands duties, location of work and shift/pattern may change to meet hospital needs. May involve exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials. Performs other duties as assigned, including disaster response/COOP activation and alternate shift patterns as required. May be eligible for additional pay for work performed on evenings, nights and/or weekends. Essential Job Functions (EJFs)

Attends work regularly and may be scheduled for specific, rotating, overtime shifts as needed; performs other duties as assigned. Assess the health/mental status of patients upon admission/transfer and continuously; document assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in patient records. Provide direction and coordination of staffing and patient care activities on assigned units; address performance issues and document interventions. Facilitate smooth admission/transfer processes; communicate with admissions staff and review documentation to ensure appropriate status and triage patients. Carry out medical staff orders and implement nursing interventions according to standards and policies; inform unit nursing staff of updates. Provide and document individual/group teaching to patients regarding medications, illness, and treatments; tailor teaching to age and cognitive level. Implement precautions, rights restrictions, and restraints/seclusion as needed to maintain patient safety; uphold patient rights. Participate in abuse/neglect processes, ensure patient safety, monitor and implement Protection Strategies; participate in Performance Improvement teams; manage nursing service resources on units. Attend mandatory trainings and ongoing education appropriate to population needs. Other duties as assigned, including disaster response/COOP participation and potential shift/location changes. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (KSAs)

Knowledge of recognized American Nurses Association Nursing Standards. Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures. Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act. Supervisory and management techniques. CPR, aggression management and restraint techniques, and emergency care. Ability to interact positively with patients, staff, families, and the public. Ability to handle crisis situations calmly and communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. Registrations, Licensure Requirements Or Certifications

Licensed to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Texas or with reciprocal recognition through the Nurse Licensure Compact. Initial Screening Criteria

Graduation from a Nursing Program accredited by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners required. At least six (6) months of experience as a practicing registered nurse required. At least six (6) months of experience in a health agency, hospital, or health-care facility preferred. Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Additional Information

Applicants must pass fingerprint background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, and Employee Misconduct/LEIE checks. Males 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service. All applicants must be at least 18 years old (Waco Center for Youth applicants must be 21).
