Construction services at HDR are more than project delivery; they’re about safeguarding quality, safety, and trust at every step. As part of HDR’s Field Services team, you’ll be on the front lines of infrastructure development, ensuring that what’s designed is built to the highest standards across highways, bridges, water treatment plants, transit systems, and power facilities.
Position Overview
HDR is looking for a Construction Inspector to perform construction engineering and inspection duties on highway and bridge construction projects in North Carolina, utilizing NCDOT policies and procedures. Responsibilities include materials testing, proper reporting and documentation, reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications, identifying discrepancies or conflicts within the documents, and enforcing contract documents. Work may be located throughout the North Carolina state and will be kept close to the candidate’s geographic location if possible.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of 1 year of experience inspecting transportation projects.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Work requires travel to meetings, site visits, and inspections.
Must be licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with applicable state law.
NCDOT experience preferred.
Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Management experience a plus.
Local candidates preferred.
Required Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent. (Candidates with 8 years of relevant construction inspection experience may substitute experience for a high school diploma.)
A minimum of 3 years experience.
Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook).
Proven problem‑solving and documentation abilities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Must successfully pass drug‑screening procedures prior to being hired, and be subject to random and cause drug and alcohol testing thereafter.
Commitment to being an active participant of HDR’s employee‑owned culture.
Location
– Raleigh, North Carolina (primary); other locations include Winston‑Salem, Charlotte, Wilmington, and Asheville.
