TOPS Surgical Specialty Hospital is seeking a motivated
Sterile Processing (SPD) Technician – Evening Shift
to join our team. TOPS Surgical Specialty Hospital is a physician‑owned inpatient and outpatient surgical specialty center designed to provide physicians with the advanced equipment and dedicated surgical support they need to deliver exceptional patient care.
The SPD Technician is responsible for decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, and sterilizing surgical instruments and equipment used in procedures. This role ensures all instruments meet strict infection control and quality standards, supporting the smooth operation of the surgical team and the Surgery Center as a whole.
Responsibilities
Decontaminate, clean, and inspect surgical instruments and equipment after procedures.
Assemble surgical instrument sets and trays according to established protocols.
Operate sterilization equipment (autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, sterilizers) and verify sterility.
Maintain proper inventory of sterile and non‑sterile supplies, reporting shortages or equipment malfunctions.
Support the OR team by ensuring sterile instruments are ready and available for scheduled procedures.
Follow strict infection control, safety, and OSHA protocols at all times.
Assist with quality assurance, compliance audits, and ongoing departmental improvement initiatives.
Uphold the center’s philosophy, objectives, and regulatory standards for patient safety and surgical excellence.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited Sterile Processing Technician program preferred.
Certification in Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD or IAHCSMM) preferred or obtained within 12 months of hire.
Knowledge of sterilization methods including steam, low‑temperature, and ultrasonic cleaning systems.
Understanding of infection control standards, AAMI, AORN, and OSHA guidelines.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a safe, sterile environment.
Ability to lift, push, and pull equipment or instrument trays safely.

Required Experience
Minimum 1 year of experience in sterile processing, central supply, or a related healthcare setting (hospital or ASC preferred).
Hands‑on experience in instrument decontamination, assembly, packaging, and sterilization.
Proven ability to manage workflow efficiently during evening shift hours.
Experience collaborating with operating room and perioperative teams to ensure timely instrument availability.
Track record of maintaining high accuracy and compliance in documentation and sterilization processes.
