Position Summary The Department of Engineering and Technology at Southern Utah University invites applications for a faculty position within the Civil Engineering program at the rank of Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor.

This full‑time faculty position begins in Fall 2026 and is open to candidates with a master’s degree (non‑tenure‑track) or a Ph.D. (tenure‑track) in Civil Engineering or a closely related field. The position is at the SUU campus in Cedar City, Utah.

The successful candidate will have a strong commitment and ability to teach at the undergraduate level. The position includes benefits that may include relocation expenses for on‑site employment.

Essential Functions

Teaching and Student Mentorship

Teach undergraduate courses using effective teaching strategies while maintaining a student‑centered learning environment.

Be prepared to teach courses for the Civil Engineering, Construction Management, and Civil Engineering Technology programs within the Department of Engineering and Technology.

Provide quality educational experiences for both major and non‑major students.

Teaching is generally expected to be in a face‑to‑face format, though limited opportunities may exist for hybrid or online modalities.

Mentor and advise students.

Tenure‑Track Faculty: Teach 24 instructional credit hours per year (approximately four 3‑credit courses per semester).

Non‑Tenure‑Track Faculty: Teach 30 instructional credit hours per year (approximately five 3‑credit courses per semester).

Program Development and Curriculum

Lead curriculum development efforts, which includes developing relevant courses, fostering curriculum alignment across programs, and expanding student opportunities.

Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure all programs remain flexible, innovative, and responsive to student and industry needs.

Actively participate and collaborate with the department to enhance and maintain a robust curriculum based on continual evaluation from internal review, industry advisory board feedback, student feedback, and accreditation review input.

Fully participate in ABET accreditation review and continuous improvement activities.

Research and Scholarly Activity (TT)

Conduct scholarly activity.

Engage collaboratively with students and/or peers on scholarly activity.

Produce work that results in peer‑reviewed publications.

Service and Other Expectations

Actively participate in service committees at the department, college, and/or university level.

Complete all required service activities.

May include other duties as needed to support a robust and dynamic environment for student learning.

Education & Experience Minimum Qualifications

Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.

Applicants with a master's degree will be considered for a non‑tenure‑track appointment.

Applicants with a Ph.D. will be considered for a tenure‑track appointment.

ABD applicants may be considered for a tenure‑track appointment if the expected degree completion is within one year of the anticipated start date.

Commitment and ability to deliver quality instruction for entry‑level and upper‑level civil engineering, construction management, and civil engineering technology courses.

Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal relationship skills.

Commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduate students as evidenced by the applicant's teaching statement.

Evidence of research/scholarly activity for tenure‑track applicants.

Preferred Qualifications

Teaching experience with demonstrated accomplishment at the undergraduate level.

Experience with ABET accreditation or other continuous improvement efforts.

Industry experience is highly desired.

Teaching or industry experience in geotechnical or environmental engineering (water supply and treatment) is highly desired.

History of service, scholarly, and program development activities such as collaboration with other engineering and science faculty, service on department, college, and university committees, recruitment and advising of students, and experience advising capstone students and student clubs focused on competing in collegiate engineering competitions.
