Job Summary Installs, troubleshoots, and repairs facility electrical distribution systems, lighting systems, apparatus, and devices. Basic skills and knowledge of motor controls, and logic control systems. Should be familiar with low voltage systems, fire systems, and voice and data systems. Also estimates, coordinates, and schedules on-site construction or maintenance projects. Quality control using guidelines from the National Electrical Code, local codes, safety regulations, and EMCOR standard practices.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and building equipment

Connects power supply wire to machines and building equipment, and connects cables and wires between machine and equipment

Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, motor starters, MCC panels, MCC circuits, variable frequency drives, and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables

Performs in a 3 phase 480/277 VAC, 120/208 VAC, and 120/240 VAC environment

Maintains Data Center electrical service for computer equipment

Maintains all electrical distribution systems within the buildings

Replaces faulty electrical components of machines such as relays, switches, motors, and position sensing devices

Replaces faulty electronic components such as printed circuit boards

Maintains building lighting, task lighting on furniture systems, parking lot lighting, lighting contactors, and emergency/exit lights; 120-volt outlets and exterior lighting controlled by energy management system

Plans layout of wiring and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings

Performs preventative maintenance on all electrical utilities and equipment

Attends classes and seminars on electrical components, distribution, and system design to update skills

Responsible for accurate and timely paperwork related to essential duties and responsibilities

Maintains, organizes, and controls inventory of supplies, tools, and equipment

Clean and organize shop area; maintain inventory of spare parts and materials; maintain tools and equipment for maintenance work

Qualifications

Successfully completed Apprenticeship program and ten or more years of related experience and training, or equivalent combination of education and experience; Journeyman status; basic skills for variable frequency drives; proficient with voltmeters, ammeters, ohm meters, Meggers, and amp probes; able to interpret data

Three (3) or more years of related experience and training, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Must possess a valid driver’s license

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; ability to present information to managers, clients, customers, and the public

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistics, geometry, and trigonometry; apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions

Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; apply concepts of basic algebra, Ohm’s Law, and geometry

Training and certification to operate a forklift and aerial lift preferred

Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in written, oral, or diagram form

The employee frequently is required to climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
