Overview

LDWF Inland Fisheries, District 5 is seeking to hire a Biologist 1-3 responsible for activities associated with sport fish field sampling and/or data collecting from field projects as assigned. This position also collects biological and environmental data using appropriate equipment including seines, plankton nets, gill and hoop nets, electro-fishing gear, and other scientific gear. This position collects fishery-dependent survey data using standard creel protocols, and assists with various types of research and monitoring to improve management methods. The position assists in the development of aquatic habitat restoration projects. This position is domiciled in Lake Charles, Louisiana. A bachelor’s degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources. Conducts field sampling and/or maintains data collected from field projects as assigned. Collects fishery dependent, and biological data using appropriate equipment, including seines, plankton nets, gill and hoop nets; electro-fishing and other scientific gear. Assists in the development of aquatic habitat restoration projects as assigned. Investigates incidents affecting natural resources, including fish kills. Participates in programs to mitigate impacts of natural disasters on resources and fishing industries. Identifies and verifies species at various life stages caught in sampling activities. Conducts data entry, editing and verification for fishery independent and dependent sampling programs. Compiles and analyzes data, and prepares reports of results as directed. Participates in the stocking of some of the state’s fisheries resources. Assists in public access improvement projects. Participates in conservation programs for state and federal protected species. Operates boats, motor vehicles, computers and sampling equipment. Maintains, repairs and calibrates water quality, electrofishing, and other fish sampling equipment. Represents the department at inter/intra-agency workgroups, task forces, lake commissions, technical groups; news media; general public; local and state officials. Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources. Position Details
