The psychiatric hospitals are a hub of excellence for forensic mental health and complex psychiatric care, with all facilities accredited by The Joint Commission. The Psychiatric Nursing Assistant II (PNA II) performs moderately complex (journey-level) rehabilitative patient care services under the clinical supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) in an inpatient setting. Responsibilities include emergency, health, and personal care services; therapeutic patient interactions; observation, reporting, and documentation in an electronic record; and participation in individualized and unit-based programming. The PNA II maintains direct therapeutic interactions to promote skills and progress toward a lesser restrictive environment. As part of the recovery team, the PNA II provides verbal and written documentation concerning patient behaviors and progress toward goals, participates in shift reports and recovery team meetings, and performs delegated nursing duties within competency. May provide guidance to PNA Is. Works under general supervision with limited initiative and uses well-defined guidelines for decision-making. May involve exposure to infectious materials and access to a limited set of records in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Performs other duties as assigned to ensure efficient operation of the patient care unit. Includes participating in disaster response/COOP activation and possible alternate shift patterns or locations. This position may be eligible for additional pay for evenings, nights, weekends, or working at maximum security locations. Essential Job Functions (EJFs)

Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work specific or rotating shifts, extended shifts, and overtime per agency policy. Supports implementation of individualized recovery plans and assists patients in reaching goals using therapeutic, person-centered communication. Assists with activities of daily living and accompanies patients to appointments as required. Communicates effectively with team members and participates in recovery/admissions teams. Maintains clinical documentation and uses basic computer skills to report patient care information clearly and timely. Assists licensed nurses with monitoring patients for medication administration, vital signs, and other assigned tasks within competency. Promotes safety through environmental awareness and positive engagement with patients. Co-facilitates classes/groups as assigned and responds to crises using least restrictive interventions under RN supervision. Provides timely information to RNs about patient conditions and potential medication effects to support safety. In the absence of PNA III/IV, provides guidance and preceptorship to PNAs as requested. Participates in unit-based and hospital-wide committees focused on quality improvement, patient safety, and strategic planning. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

Knowledge of patient care techniques and recovery programs. Knowledge of basic computer skills. Knowledge of interpersonal and leadership skills to work with team members. Skill in taking vital signs. Ability to read, write, and understand English to follow instructions. Ability to provide patient care, administer first aid/CPR, and conduct TIPS. Ability to work with others and accept supervision. Ability to train and provide guidance to others. Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications

If transporting patients, must possess a valid Texas driver license or obtain it within 90 days. Out-of-state licenses require an original certified driving record. CPR certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment. Initial Screening Criteria

Twelve (12) months of work experience; twelve (12) months of direct care experience preferred. Additional Information

Applicants must pass a fingerprint background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, LEIE). Males 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service. All applicants must be at least 18; Waco Center for Youth applicants must be at least 21.
