About the Immunology Center of Georgia

The Immunology Center of Georgia (IMMCG) represents a new initiative by the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University to leverage the ability of the immune system to combat disease. The IMMCG will assemble teams of biomedical researchers with strong records of scientific innovation and technological development. The IMMCG will be co-directed by Drs. Catherine Lynn Hedrick and Klaus Ley. The goal is to produce novel and effective treatments for conditions that heavily impact Georgia and the United States. The new center is recruiting faculty and staff to lead projects focused on cardiovascular disease, obesity and metabolic disorders, autoimmune and infectious disease, neurodegenerative disease and cancer.

Job Summary

The candidate will conduct complex bioinformatics analyses of high-dimensional immunology datasets, including CyTOF, bulk RNA-seq, CITE-Seq, and scRNA-seq.

Responsibilities

Assist in complex computational analysis of high-dimensional immunology datasets, including CyTOF, bulk RNA-seq, CITE-Seq, and scRNA-seq.

Conduct statistical data analyses.

Assist in manuscript preparation for publication in peer-reviewed journals and presenting research findings at conferences and workshops.

Develop bioinformatics pipelines from existing tools.

Independently identifying solutions and ability to investigate and learn new approaches necessary to adapt existing or new models.

Work independently to identify and implement solutions with some leadership and supervisory activities.

Provide training on bioinformatics-related concepts, applications, and tools.

Recommend new methods, strategies, and improvements to incorporate into existing models.

Mentor a team of bioinformaticians and computational biologists.

Oversee the development and maintenance of bioinformatics pipelines and software.

Provide strategic direction and vision for bioinformatics initiatives.

Represent the organization at scientific conferences and workshops.

Establish and recommend workflows for omics data analysis.

Help create publication-quality figures to aid in data presentation.

Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Bioinformatics, Biological Sciences, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or related field with six years of related experience.

OR Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Sciences, or biological sciences with three years of related experience.

OR Ph.D. from an accredited college or university.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Familiarity with standard statistical methods. Proficiency in debugging and troubleshooting bioinformatics data analysis pipelines. Proficiency in R packages related to bioinformatics, statistical analyses, and visualization.

Skills:

Strong problem-solving, verbal and written communication, interpersonal skills, and commitment to confidentiality.

Abilities:

Experience in developing bioinformatics pipelines. Experience with version control (Git). Proficiency in Python, Linux command-line, and HPC environments. Ability to self-manage and work in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary team.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (work outside normal hours may be required).

Salary Range: $68,500-$87,300 annually. Pay Band: B13.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications within the established range.

Recruitment Period: Until Filled.
