The LA County Board of Supervisors recently declared a local state of emergency for homelessness, and the County is working to revise and expand our response to help all who are affected. We are looking for a qualified and passionate individual to help us in the mission of addressing issues like housing, mental health, and substance use. The Public Defender (PD) is an essential contributor to LA County’s homelessness emergency response. Through its legal services, PD works to facilitate the diversion of thousands of low-income community members annually from LA County’s jails and into treatment services, as well as works to reduce the collateral social and economic impacts of contact with the criminal legal system, such as losing employment, social services, and housing.

WHO CAN APPLY Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office

is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Mental Health Clinical Supervisor vacancy related to the homelessness crisis.

Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment. Before the end of your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.

Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Mental Health Clinical Supervisor.

ABOUT THE POSITION The Mental Health Clinical Supervisor directs the work of the departmental Psychiatric Social Workers.

Essential Job Functions include but may not be limited to:

Planning and distributing work assignments

to lower-level clinicians and support staff. Providing training, instruction, and clinical direction, and communicating program information to staff. Communicating with clinicians

to discuss cases, resolve complex issues with cases, and make suggestions and recommendations. Reviewing case records

for accuracy, completeness, and quality to ensure the application of proper techniques and compliance with Federal and State mandates. Participating in the development and implementation of mental health programs

and the determination of the type and level of required services, and performance and quality-assurance measures. Performing the more complicated casework

and emergency assignments when needed. Conferring with program managers

on personnel issues and recommending solutions. SELECTION REQUIREMENTS Two years of post-licensure social work experience in a recognized social services or mental health care setting* involving problems of mental or emotional dysfunction and the use of psychiatric consultation.

You MUST meet the requirement(s) listed above to be appointed to fill the vacancy related to this recruitment.

LICENSE A valid, active license** as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) issued by the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Behavioral Sciences. A valid California Class C Driver's License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

PHYSICAL CLASS II - LIGHT This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION *Recognized social services or mental health care settings are defined as facilities or agencies and/or professional organizations for profit and/or nonprofit regulated by the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS).
