The
Tooling Technician
is responsible for the maintenance, repair, revision, and polishing of all injection molds used in the production process. This includes both in-house and vendor-completed tooling work. The technician plays a vital role in supporting production through timely mold changes, tool improvements, and troubleshooting. Responsibilities
Evaluate and provide design feedback for all new injection mold tool builds Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on all in-house injection tooling Select and coordinate with external vendors for tooling repair and modification Obtain quotes for in-house and outsourced tooling repairs or revisions Perform insert changes and adjustments for molds as needed Inspect and approve all completed vendor tooling work before processing payments Assist the maintenance team with precision machining projects as necessary Maintain accurate records of tooling expenses, repairs, and revisions Polish or inspect molds while they are in the press, as needed Troubleshoot tooling issues and direct repair efforts accordingly Support machine/tool troubleshooting during production as needed Required Education & Experience
Associate’s degree in a technical field or completion of a tooling/mold-making apprenticeship (or equivalent experience) 3–5 years of experience in injection mold maintenance or related tooling field Required Qualifications & Skills
Strong ability to diagnose and resolve mold-related problems Proficiency in using manual mills, grinders, cut-off saws, and other precision tools Familiar with mold insert changes and general injection mold operations Able to lift up to 50 lbs Able to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday Must have dexterity to use hand tools and equipment for assembly and repair work High attention to detail and ability to work independently Excellent organizational and documentation skills Benefits
