Summary
Perform daily clinical operations of Echocardiography, including performing Echocardiograms, entering preliminary interpretations, and covering all sites and shifts, including call coverage. Work Performed
Level I activities:
Demonstrates proficiency by performing routine and emergency echocardiograms, including 2D, 3D, Doppler, Transesophageal, and Stress Echocardiograms, as requested by physicians and in accordance with standard practices. Provides echocardiography services at all necessary locations, working variable shifts, including weekends and emergent call coverage. Operates equipment necessary to perform procedures, maintains equipment, and ensures quality and safety standards are met. Analyzes patient medical records to obtain history and necessary information for diagnostic procedures. Prepares preliminary reports for review by Cardiologists, including comparison with previous studies. Participates in quality improvement activities and maintains accurate logs and records. Communicates effectively with team members and patients, and provides education as needed. Level II activities:
Performs advanced cardiac ultrasound services, including congenital, myocardial mechanics, 3D imaging, and stress echocardiography, using independent judgment. Acts as a resource and assists other staff with complex procedures. Supports departmental goals and quality assurance initiatives. Acts as a site Charge Sonographer and supports staff development. Level III activities:
Provides expert-level services, instructs staff, and leads quality assurance and policy updates, ensuring ICAEL accreditation standards are met. Participates in research and educational activities, and mentors staff and students. Education and Certification
Graduate of an accredited program meeting eligibility for registry/certification or holds current registry or certification. ARDMS/CCI certification in Echocardiography required, with a 18-month window for new hires. BLS certification is also required. Experience
Level I: No experience beyond education/certification requirements. Must obtain ARDMS certification within 18 months. Level II: Minimum of two years' experience as a Sonographer. Level III: Minimum of 4 years' experience in the specialty modality. Additional Information
