Overview
Assists in the performance of diagnostic and therapeutic minimally invasive percutaneous procedures by utilizing radiographic and other imaging equipment. Employs techniques and procedures that are age appropriate, in accordance with the accepted standards of practice while demonstrating expertise in limiting radiation and laser exposure to patients and other members of the health care team. Responsibilities
Adheres to general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment using communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building. Ensures readiness of emergency equipment and supplies; recognizes and reacts appropriately to potential emergencies. Performs or assists in performing procedures and/or diagnostic tests and/or therapeutic exams with an understanding of departmental and procedural responsibilities. Provides instruction, education and consultation to health care personnel and patients to promote and improve quality patient care; maintains appropriate education/credentials. Maintains coordination of activities with others to accomplish work objectives through positive and professional interactions; communicates progress. Maintains files and records according to procedure for accurate and current departmental records and reports. Maintains appropriate education/credentials; pursues learning opportunities within the department, organization and community. Ensures patient needs are met and promotes excellent customer service; evaluates pertinent patient data prior to procedures. Provides technologist coverage for 24-hour emergency Neuro Endovascular and Vascular Interventional services through regular schedules and call/late schedules. Provides age-developmental appropriate care in accordance with Age/Developmental Specific Guidelines for the age groups served when participating in patient care. Qualifications
Education/Experience:
Associate's degree from an approved school of Radiologic Technology or Cardiovascular Interventional Technology program required; or, an ARRT or RCIS graduate from a Cardiovascular Interventional Training program; or two years' work experience in Interventional Radiology or similar modality. Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration:
Registered Radiologic Technologist ARRT (R) or RCIS certification required. BCLS CPR certification required. Advanced certification required within one year of hire date (ARRT CV, CI, or VI). ACLS preferred. Skills/Qualifications:
Exceptional oral, written, and listening communication skills; ability to handle daily stressful environment; ability to work independently and prioritize clinical responsibilities; supports employees and physicians in critical patient care environment. Work Environment
Possible exposure to infections and contagious diseases; risk of blood-borne diseases; exposure to toxic chemicals; exposure to low-level radiation; occasional exposure to unpleasant patient or unit elements; contact with patients in varied circumstances; subject to emergency or crisis situations; may perform emergency care; long irregular hours; required protective equipment including eye protection, face protection, gown, lead apron, mask, sterile and non-sterile medical gloves.
