Overview The Institute for Carbon Management (ICM) is a cross-campus technology-translation entity at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). ICM translates pioneering carbon management strategies from laboratory/bench-scale to pre-commercial/commercial-scale devices, prototypes, and software solutions. ICM focuses on: - Technologies for CO2 removal, utilization, and avoidance - Technologies for creating new supply chains and processing approaches for critical materials (e.g., Li, Ni, Co, Mn, Mo) to accelerate the clean energy transition and reduce the carbon footprint of extractive processes. ICM operates with action teams that are convergent, agile, and world-class. ICM technologies have been recognized with awards such as the NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE and the 2021 Liveability Challenge, and are being commercialized through spin-out companies including CarbonBuilt Inc., Concrete-AI Inc., and Equatic Inc.

Position Summary The Institute for Carbon Management (ICM) is seeking experienced Senior Chemical Process Engineers to join our multi-disciplinary team of engineers and scientists developing carbon removal technologies for global commercialization. The Senior Process Engineer will lead the design, development, and optimization of processes and plant designs across multiple scales—from bench and pilot to commercial deployment—ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operations in compliance with safety and environmental regulations. This role includes supervisory responsibilities, such as managing and mentoring junior engineers, overseeing day-to-day engineering activities, and fostering technical growth within the team. The Senior Engineer will contribute to experimental design, pilot operations, and technology translation from the laboratory to full-scale commercialization. The ideal candidate has a strong technical background with deep expertise in process and plant design, experience supervising and mentoring engineering staff, and a track record of advancing sustainable solutions at scale through collaboration with diverse technical teams, external vendors, and industry partners.
