Job Description The Mechanical Engineer supports the design, development, and production of engineered-to-order power distribution equipment, including switchgear, power control rooms, and related mechanical systems. This role focuses on designing sheet‑metal assemblies, structural frames, copper bus, and mechanical integration of electrical components. The engineer collaborates closely with electrical engineers, electrical designers, manufacturing, and field service teams to ensure designs meet performance, safety, and cost objectives from concept through release.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain 3D models and detailed fabrication drawings for switchgear enclosures, substructures, and assemblies using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.

Design components with manufacturability, serviceability, and electrical integration in mind, ensuring compliance with UL, IEEE, and NEMA standards.

Generate engineering change orders (ECOs), bills of material (BOMs), and manufacturing documentation.

Interface daily with shop leads and technicians to resolve design‑for‑manufacture and assembly (DFMA) issues.

Support product improvement initiatives that enhance reliability, reduce cost, and improve manufacturability.

Collaborate with electrical engineers to design bus bar layouts, wireway systems, and mechanical accommodations for high‑current assemblies.

Assist in troubleshooting production or test issues and implement corrective actions.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.

0–3 years of experience in product design or manufacturing engineering.

Understanding of 3‑D and 2‑D modeling practices using Autodesk software (or equivalent) and standard MS Office applications (Excel, Word).

Desired Qualifications

Experience designing sheet‑metal assemblies, welded frames, and enclosure systems.

Working knowledge of Agile PLM, Oracle ERP, or equivalent systems.

Familiarity with electrical integration practices in power equipment.

Understanding of relevant standards (NEMA, IEEE).

Skills and Attributes

Strong analytical and problem‑solving ability with attention to detail and manufacturability.

Effective communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration with engineering, production, and field personnel.

Ability to manage multiple design tasks and meet deadlines.

Commitment to continuous improvement and standardization within the engineering process.
