Opto-Mechanical Technician
nLIGHT, Inc. is seeking a skilled Opto‑Mechanical Technician to support the development of next‑generation National Defense High Energy Laser (HEL) technologies. The role involves assembly, integration, alignment, and testing of laser and electro‑optical systems in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.
Position • Minimum 3 years of professional fiber‑optic experience • H.S. Diploma or GED required; Associate degree or Technical Certification is a plus • Compensation: $30.00 – $45.00 per hour based on education, skills, and experience • U.S. DoD Personnel Security Clearance required; preference for candidates with an existing clearance
Job Description Opto‑Mechanical Technicians provide assembly, integration, alignment, and test support for cutting‑edge laser and electro‑optical systems.
Responsibilities
Manage schedule and priorities with minimal direction to meet mid‑ to long‑term objectives
Receive and inspect components
Install, align, and integrate optics, electro‑optics, and mechanics (COTS & custom)
Assemble and test thermal management systems
Support facility operations (clean rooms, chillers) and assist with occasional travel to customer sites
Required Experience / Capability
Commitment to Excellence, Attention to Detail, Pride in Workmanship
Ability to maintain composure and build relationships under stress in a dynamic environment
Competence in clean‑room practices and cleanliness standards
Experience in opto‑mechanical assembly, including receiving, inspecting, dry‑assembly, and bonding
Comfortable using software tools for system alignment and integration
Strong troubleshooting skills, creative problem‑solving, and positive attitude
Familiarity with safe operation of laser systems; safety‑first mindset
Additional Desired Experience / Capability
Expertise with high‑power laser systems
Optical fiber splicing, polishing, repair/service, and fiber management
Electrical cable and component assembly and test
