About the Role The Engineering Technician is responsible for providing and leading all technical and testing to support engineering and the engineering labs. Activities include, but are not limited to, testing to support new product development and product improvements, design preparation, records maintenance, report writing, and other technical support. The technician must communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues and management to quickly resolve issues and ensure customer satisfaction. Please note that this is an in-person, onsite Monday thru Friday full-time position.
Responsibilities
Once assigned a project, responsible for developing effective/efficient test plans and communicating the plans to various departments along with timely updates, as required.
Works autonomously to safely set up and run tests according to the test plan(s).
Builds sample products, prototypes, and various test equipment utilizing the proper tools and equipment and applying the necessary safety protocols.
Works with engineering, sales, and product managers to highlight and resolve customer issues as needed. May occasionally require customer visits to investigate and resolve.
Manages and helps to support internal/external projects requiring new or revised applications and testing.
Provides input on experimental designs, protos, samples, and tested projects that could improve product and/or technical information.
Aids in the development and support of procedures and continuous improvement activities in the labs and surrounding areas.
Assembles and maintains standard operating procedures, including safety procedures and equipment.
Records, collects, and processes data of test procedures and results and able to clearly communicate numerical and graphical data in a report that could be part of a larger compilation.
Develops documentation of processes and experiments.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience working with engineering drawings, prints, process specifications and work instructions, both in printed and electronic formats.
Above average technical writing skills with the ability to provide concise reports identifying key data results.
Strong verbal communications with the ability to provide diplomatic hands-on feedback to engineers and other key personnel.
Good attention to detail and ability to follow complex work instructions.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Qualifications
HVAC trade school and or bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
3+ years’ experience working with Mechanical & Electronic devices
In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems (residential and/or commercial) strongly
Education and or acquired knowledge of fuel oil and natural gas combustion
Familiarity with project management methodologies.
Thermocouple knowledge: Demonstrate understanding of thermocouples, including their types, applications, and calibration processes. Ability to apply thermocouple technology in various testing and measurement scenarios.
Data Acquisition Equipment: Experience in working with data acquisition systems, including setup, operation, and troubleshooting. Proficiency in integrating data acquisition equipment with other testing tools and software for accurate data collection and analysis.
Forklift Operation: Display proven experience in operating forklifts, including certification and adherence to safety protocols. An ability to handle various types of forklifts and perform tasks such as loading, unloading, and transporting materials efficiently and safely.
Basic Knowledge of Electrical Systems: Familiarity with fundamental electrical concepts and components, including wiring, circuits, and safety protocols. Ability to assist with troubleshooting and maintenance of electrical equipment.
Additional Responsibilities
Assist engineers in testing of new product applications.
Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of engineering processes, test results, and project updates.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve technical issues.
Support the implementation of engineering solutions by providing hands-on assistance and troubleshooting.
Post-Processing of Test Data: Analyze and interpret test data to ensure accuracy and reliability. Perform data cleaning, validation, and statistical analysis as required.
Report Writing and Uploading: Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing test results, methodologies, and conclusions. Ensure reports are clear, well-organized, and tailored to the intended audience, including technical and non-technical stakeholders. Upload completed test reports to the designated database or document management system, ensuring proper documentation and accessibility.
Timely Setup of Test Appliances and Fixtures: Efficiently set up test appliances and fixtures according to specified protocols and schedules. Ensure all equipment is correctly configured and ready for testing to meet project timelines and quality standards.
Maintain 6s Initiatives: Ensure adherence to 6S principles (Sort, set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain, and Safety) within the workplace. Regularly conduct audits, implement improvements, and promote a culture of continuous improvement and safety.
Skills The required skills for this position include a solid foundation in engineering principles, which will be applied daily to assist in the testing of products. Proficiency in technical documentation is essential, as the Engineering Tech will be responsible for maintaining accurate records of testing process and results. Strong analytical skills will be utilized to interpret data and provide insights that inform engineering decisions. Additionally, effective communication skills are necessary for collaborating with team members and conveying technical information clearly.
