Design Engineer develops conveyor designs for use in high volume material handling equipment. The employee receives input from engineering team and sales, and provides design feedback, while working with cross functional teams to hand-off equipment to production and material flow teams. Candidate must have experience working in a dynamic engineering environment, be good at multi-tasking, and real-time crisis management. Reporting relationship
The Design Engineer reports to the Mechanical Engineering Manager. Key Qualifications
5 years of design experience with electro-mechanical material handling systems. Skilled in 3D modeling using SolidWorks, AutoCAD or similar. Hands-on approach, with technical experience in engineering, prototyping, electro-mechanical systems. Desire to learn about and explore modern technologies; ability to adapt quickly to a wide variety of tasks and engineering disciplines. Proven ability to work independently under high pressure in a dynamic environment. Applied understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing related to complex electro-mechanical assemblies and plant layout. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; motivated to teach and learn in a highly technical organization. Experience with design, development, and implementation of conveyor projects; preference in the material handling industry. Strong analytical and organizational skills; ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously. Strong ability in root cause failure analysis and corrective action planning. Responsibilities
Travel as required – North and South America. Provide manufacturing support by answering technical questions; troubleshoot, fix or recommend upgrades to Systec Plant and Equipment. Design parts handling conveyors from concept through manufacturing to finished, tested solutions using standard design practices. Create project-related designs, such as schematics, layouts, and packing lists. Recommend tooling, software, equipment, and personnel acquisitions to management. Maintain a backlog/workload for all Engineering Department staff (designers, project managers, panel shop personnel). Maintain communication with management throughout the project lifecycle; update status of Engineering Checklist, Manufacturing schedule and design log; recommend changes to increase efficiency or reduce costs. Provide support to field service technicians. Create packing lists for warranty and manufacturing adjustments to be approved by management. Project management to coordinate timely release of packing list releases for Mechanical, Electrical, and Installation, EDRs; update project progression lists and customer folders; modify support manuals as required. Communicate with customers, provide operational assistance, answer questions, and troubleshoot as needed. Verify completed Engineering Design Requests (EDRs); conduct Quality Control checks on equipment; update project checklists as required; update customer folders and modify support manuals as required. Education
Mechanical Design Experience or BS in Mechanical Engineering. Valuable prior work experience
