Utility Maintenance Field Supervisor
in the Water Resources Department for the Town of Clayton. Salary range and location as posted: SG306, $55,518.00 - $100,416.00; work location at 653 Veterans Pkwy, Clayton, NC. Plans and leads preventive and predictive maintenance and repair of the Town’s Collections system, including sewer lift stations, pumps, wet wells, generators, and related appurtenances. Leads and participates in the use of Vac-truck, jetting machine, CCTV, SL RAT (Sewer Line Rapid Assessment Tool), and related equipment to maintain and repair sewer lines and appurtenances; records locations and conditions. Directs permit-required confined space entries into manholes, wet wells, check valve vaults, and other appurtenances. Supervises and participates in smoke testing of the collection system and follows through with repairs. Leads vegetation control around manholes, valve markers, hydrants, and pump stations; operates equipment to cut undergrowth. Operates and maintains heavy equipment and assigns tasks to crew members; ensures tools and equipment are brought to work sites to avoid delays. Meets with citizens and contractors to explain Town policies and resolve issues; serves as Backup Operator in Responsible Charge (B-ORC) as needed. Coordinates and participates in the staging of generators and bypass pumps during emergencies and planned tasks; communicates with Emergency Management and Public Information for public notifications. Trains new workers; provides coaching, performance feedback, and conducts formal evaluations; implements disciplinary actions per policy. Maintains traffic control in work zones per MUTCD; coordinates multiple crews for water and sewer taps, line repairs, meter installations, and related field customer service. Prepares work records; creates work orders; reviews and updates maps and blueprints as needed. Plans and oversees work zones and maintains departmental vehicle/tool inventories; covers for coworkers during absences. Performs other related tasks and participates in on-call rotation. Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training preferred. NC Class A CDL with tanker endorsement or ability to obtain within 12 months; Grade C Water Distribution Certification or ability to obtain within 12 months; Grade 3 Wastewater Collections Certification or ability to obtain within 12 months. Extensive knowledge of utility installation, maintenance, and repair; sewer lift stations and water distribution systems; troubleshooting pumps; construction equipment and tools; safety practices; and use of information technology for work orders. Ability to read utility maps and manuals; follow oral/written instructions; maintain accurate work activity records; and solve maintenance, repair, and customer service problems. Strong leadership and communication skills; ability to train and mentor staff; establish and maintain positive working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and the public. Necessary Special Qualifications
Possess a valid NC Class A CDL with tanker endorsement or ability to obtain within twelve months. Possess NC Grade C Water Distribution Certification or ability to obtain within twelve months.
