The Life Cycle Engineering Department supports the design, construction and test of in‑service Navy DDG 51 and DDG 1000 surface combatants across multiple locations worldwide. This entry‑level Hull/Structure Engineer will support structural analysis of design modifications for ship alterations required for modernization of the DDG 51 and 1000 classes.

Responsibilities

Respond to Functional Engineering Analysis Requests and provide analysis and written direction to detail design for foundations and structural modifications in support of Navy contracts, Ship Upgrades (SCDs), and special studies.

Conduct structural load analyses.

Develop and maintain associated calculations and configuration management of changes to structural baselines for new construction.

Document and present technical positions on requirements compliance issues related to design, integration and construction.

Review and approve design products.

Qualifications

BS in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Naval Architecture or a related degree from an ABET‑accredited school (required).

0 to 1 year of engineering experience; familiarity with marine and military systems desired.

Fundamental understanding of structural systems, mechanics of materials, and structural analysis methods employed in the engineering and design of steel structures.

Ability to critically assess technical problems, evaluate options, and develop solutions.

Ability to read and understand structural scantlings, drawings, and foundation plans.

Positive team attitude and contributing engineering team member.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Ability to handle multiple projects with competing priorities.

Proficiency with Windows, MS Office, Microsoft Excel (required) and MathCAD (preferred).

Experience with FEA desired.

Must be a US citizen able to obtain an interim security clearance within 45 days of hire.

Compensation

$85,000 – $115,000 (Auburn, ME) or $125,000 – $160,000 (Portland, ME) depending on location.
