Position Summary The Unified Communications Team at Michigan State University is responsible for the management, maintenance, and advancement of key communication services across campus, including telephone systems, contact centers, cable television, and cellular services. Reporting to the Unified Communications Manager, the Telecom Engineer collaborates with team members to develop new telecom applications, maintain existing systems, and support the University’s critical communications infrastructure. This role involves working with cellular networks, phone systems, and other networked technologies to ensure reliable service delivery to the University community.

Minimum Requirements Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to managing networking switches, network systems, and telecommunications systems, and managing cellular equipment, including deploying ODAS, IDAS or IP-Based Cellular Extenders; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with Avaya Aura Communication Systems, including Avaya System Manager, Avaya Communication Manager, Avaya Session Manager, Avaya Session Border Controllers, Avaya Application Enablement Services
Experience or certifications from Extreme Networks or Juniper Networks, specifically for Fabric based deployments.
Experience working with Verizon, AT&T, T‑Mobile or Dish Network to deploy equipment to enhance cellular coverage on campus networks
Experience working with educational departments to design, consult and deploy telecommunications services.
