Civil Service Title:
Mechanical Engineer II
Serves as Mechanical Engineer in the Movable Bridges Group, reporting to the unit Director. Assists project Engineers-In-Charge (EIC’s) and the unit Director in overseeing the performance of Design/CSS and CM/REI consultant contracts; reviews consultant and contractor submittals for conformance with contract requirements, engineering principles, and ability to achieve design goals; assists EIC’s in the resolution of construction problems that may arise during the design and construction phases of the project; establishes design goals for consultants; coordinates the project’s design, scope and construction activities according to Agency goals and specifications; performs engineering calculations in support of design and construction work; performs administrative duties as requested by management such as: preparation of Certificate to Proceed (CP) estimates, Resident Engineer Inspection (REI) scopes and Pre-Solicitation Review (PSR) documents; audits and processes contract and consultant payments; prepares documentation for contract change order requests; assists in the coordination of inter-agency construction meetings as well as private owners and utilities; and performs other duties as requested by the EIC, Mechanical Engineer, or unit Director. Supervises one to two Intern Mechanical Engineers and/or Assistant Mechanical Engineers. Coordinates with civil, structural and electrical engineering disciplines. Coordinates with agency maintenance staff.
Preferred Skills
Knowledge and experience in machine design and/or mechanical power transmission. Familiarity with AutoCAD.

Minimum Qualifications
(1) Four (4) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in mechanical engineering work; and (2) A valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License. Current New York State registration as a Professional Engineer must be maintained for the duration of your employment. A master's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) may be substituted for one year of the mechanical engineering experience required in “1
