The required test for this job has been put on hold for now, therefore, this position will be filled on a PROVISIONAL basis. At such time an examination is given for this position, within two years of hire, the candidate serving in the position provisionally will be required to take the examination. The candidate, at that time, must pass the exam to continue employment in this position. ***
Responsibilities
Under general supervision, responsible for performing general maintenance and repairs to the District's motor fleet, custodial, and landscaping equipment, or other machinery maintained by Fleet Services; performs related duties as required.
Note: many fleet positions are for SECOND SHIFT. Upon an official offer you will begin training on first shift. After completion of training you could be required to transition to second shift.
Performs minor repairs and maintenance to school buses and other vehicles.
Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on custodial equipment and machinery to ensure proper and safe operation.
Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on landscaping equipment and machinery to ensure proper and safe operation.
Troubleshoots systems and component parts of gasoline or electric-powered custodial and landscaping equipment and machinery.
Inspects, adjusts, removes, repairs, and replaces parts on electrical systems and other systems of custodial and landscaping equipment and machinery.
Inspects, adjusts, removes, and replaces parts on engines and motors of custodial and landscaping equipment and machinery.
Inspects, adjusts, and replaces carburetors, alternators, starters, and related components of mowers and related machinery.
Performs tune-ups on custodial and landscaping equipment and machinery using diagnostic equipment.
Tests equipment to locate and identify problems and to check on repair work prior to returning equipment to active use.
Maintains cleanliness in work area; completes necessary paperwork and uses computer or other devices to enter reports and documentation.
Changes, mounts, dismounts, and balances a variety of tires.
Drives District vehicles and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
One (1) year of experience assisting with mechanical repairs to automotive, custodial, agricultural, or heavy machinery. Substitution: Successful completion of a recognized vocational automotive or agricultural technician program may be substituted for the required experience.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
By completion of the probationary period, must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License allowing the operation of vehicles with air brakes and the following endorsements: Passenger (P).
