CIVIL ENGINEER – LEVEL 2
Job Summary
The Civil Engineer Level 2 supports detailed site development, grading optimization, hydrology modeling, and permitting compliance for utility‑scale solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. This role requires hands‑on experience in site design, foundation engineering, stormwater drainage, erosion control planning, and geotechnical assessments. The position reports to the Irvine, CA office and maintains a remote working schedule. Working hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm local time, with expected travel up to 30%.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
Civil Site Design & Development – Develop grading and drainage plans, optimize cut/fill balance, and support stormwater management design.
Geotechnical Investigations – Evaluate soil stability, compaction, and foundation feasibility for racking and battery installations.
Foundation Engineering – Assist in pile designs, slab foundations, and soil‑structure interaction analysis.
Road & Access – Design road layouts, access driveways, and site drainage solutions.
Technical Engineering Support – Use AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and GIS software to develop site layouts, topographic maps, and grading models.
Hydrology & Permitting – Perform hydrology calculations and drainage modeling, support land permitting and environmental impact assessments.
Project Execution & Coordination – Collaborate with electrical/structural engineers, support QA/QC reviews, and resolve site challenges with contractors.
Leadership & Development – Provide guidance to entry‑level staff and in professional development training.
Required Qualifications
2+ years of experience in civil site design, land development, and stormwater engineering.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
Experience with permitting processes, site grading, and foundation design for renewable energy projects.
Software skills – Intermediate proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D; GIS tools for topography and hydrology analysis.
Certifications – NABCEP PV Associate, EIT or FE (preferred).
