Steel Construction Manager

C.D. Smith Construction . The Steel Construction Manager will be responsible for ensuring steady work for our ironworker staff and growing this business sector. They will oversee and coordinate steel construction projects from conceptual estimating through project completion, including scopes such as Reinforcing Steel, Post Tensioning, Precast Erection, Structural Steel, Miscellaneous Metals, Mass Timber Erection, and other union-claimed specialties. Key responsibilities include Project Management, Estimating, Sales, and Supply Chain Management. Essential Functions
Build relationships with fabricators, suppliers, and construction management firms to secure steady work. Develop and maintain relationships with owners, managers, designers, and tradespersons. Participate in industry events and career fairs. Research and test new technology to improve field efficiency. Build relationships with Ironworker Unions. Uphold AISC certification standards, manage and train Quality Control Inspectors, and oversee the AISC Quality Control Process. Preconstruction
Lead initial planning with fabricators, suppliers, clients, and unions. Solicit bids, review proposals, and procure steel materials. Manage bidding, procurement, and estimating processes. Coordinate with internal teams on scheduling and sequencing. Supervise fabricators and steel subcontractors to ensure quality and adherence to standards. Construction
Manage steel material deliveries and certifications. Address fabrication issues and collaborate on problem resolution. Oversee safety standards and site safety plans. Closeout
Track productivity and document lessons learned. Participate in project closeout meetings. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience. 10+ years of large-scale commercial construction experience. Willingness to participate in certifications like CWI, PTI Level 1, PCI CFA/CCA. Experience with steel detailing and fabrication shop environments. Skills and Abilities
Excellent communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla, and scheduling software. Understanding of contracts, plans, and regulations. Ability to work under pressure, multitask, and travel to project sites. Additional Details
