Job Description Overview The Shipyard Test Organization is a learning organization that plans, prepares and executes complex testing on all non-nuclear systems through strict adherence to the policies and procedures that drive our Test Program. Our Test Directors abide by the nuclear watchstanding principles that have shaped our STO Pillars: Procedural Compliance, Ownership, Integrity, Level of Knowledge, Backup each other, Formality, and Planning. STO is the premier trade made up of a team of world class testers who have the knowledge and skill to be the last in line delivering the most capable warships to the U.S. Navy. STO Test Directors complete a rigorous qualification program through provided schooling, hands‑on application and troubleshooting on the deckplate, and a continued dedication to growth and proficiency within their role.
Responsibilities
Perform electrical testing of all Shipboard, Steam and Electric Plant, Auxiliary and Weapons systems.
Complete Test Director review of Test Form data daily and logging calibrated test equipment.
Exhibit high moral character and integrity required to certify NAVSEA test requirements.
Exhibit the ability to read and understand various system and test diagrams/drawings required for all electrical system testing.
Work onboard submarines under construction during all phases of construction in all types of weather.
Work requires heavy lifting, pulling and climbing (ladders) and enter in tight/confined spaces for extended periods of time.
Perform various electrical testing tasks using various meters to perform continuity checks of installed cables and equipment. Perform alignments of ship systems electronic systems. Assist in trouble shooting when required.
Individual must understand and comply with Division Safety Manual and technical manual operating instructions.
Be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
Training and Qualifications
Training to perform electrical operational testing of all Steam and Electric Plant systems; Hull Mechanical and Auxiliary systems; and Weapons systems which may include going on sea trials.
Qualify to perform the duties of a safety technician which requires making systems safe for trade work utilizing Electric Boat's Lockout/Tag‑out procedures.
Perform watch standing duties to include: operate ship's electrical systems; roving watches required for ship safety, or monitor electrical systems required as part of the construction which may include weekend work.
Use of radiological dosimetry to work within radiological controlled areas when required.
Complete and maintain the required training to work on energized equipment.
Pay is: $28.70 - $41.14/hr
Qualifications Required:
High School diploma or GED or 2+ years technical experience.
Prior military training or electrical job experience or training from Vocational, Technical or Community College.
Prior US Naval submarine system experience or prior testing experience with shipboard systems.
Experience with Lockout/Tagout procedures.
Skills
Ability to interpret blueprints, system diagrams, and schematics.
Attention to detail.
Electrical skills (ability to work with basic electrical tools).
Ability to think critically.
Ability to pass required schools for specific qualifications.
