Purpose Statement The job of Nutrition & Wellness-Central Kitchen Manager is to provide support to the food service activities at the assigned location with responsibilities for directing food service personnel; producing food to meet the mandated nutritional needs of students; ensuring proper transport and availability of food service items to a variety of sites; providing written support to convey information; and complying with mandated health standards and the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs.
Essential Functions
Monitors, cleans, and maintains all areas of the storage, food preparation and serving areas of the kitchen for safe and sanitary conditions.
Monitors satellite kitchens to ensure a safe and sanitary working environment.
Estimates production amounts, prepares breakfast and lunch meals, and adjusts recipes to meet projected meal requirements while complying with nutritional requirements and minimizing waste.
Inspects food and supply deliveries for quantity, quality, and specifications; ensures compliance with health requirements.
Maintains inventory of food and supplies at central and satellite locations to meet menu requirements.
Manages daily site operations to provide safe and efficient food services in accordance with nutritional and health standards.
Supervises kitchen staff and satellite kitchen staff; orients, trains, evaluates; ensures compliance with health, safety, and nutritional standards; supervises Nutrition & Wellness workers I, II and III, student workers, interns, and other personnel as assigned.
Supports assigned personnel, student workers, and/or volunteers in resolving problems and performing functions safely and efficiently.
Participates in department meetings, trainings, and workshops to convey or gather information required for job functions.
Performs functions of other nutritional services positions as needed to ensure adequate staff coverage.
Prepares documentation (e.g., inventories, production records) for compliance and information conveyance.
Processes daily transaction data (e.g., sales transactions, end-of-day reports) for accurate accounts.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Ability to perform multiple technical tasks; adhere to safety practices; plan and manage projects; maintain accurate records; operate standard kitchen and office equipment; use applicable software and web-based programs.
Knowledge: Basic math (fractions, percentages, ratios); read technical information; compose documents; facilitate discussions; assess situations and define issues; knowledge of safety practices, sanitation, and food handling.
Ability: Schedule activities; gather and classify data; work with diverse teams; manage data and equipment; communicate with diverse groups; set priorities; work in a team; handle interruptions; work with detailed information; problem-solve with data and equipment.
Responsibility Work under limited supervision following standardized practices; direct others within a small work unit; opportunities to impact the organization’s services.
Work Environment The role requires significant lifting (up to 50 pounds), bending, standing for long periods, and exposure to temperature extremes and potentially related risks. Typical mix: 20% sitting, 30% walking, 50% standing.
Experience Job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
Education High school diploma or equivalent.
