ABOUT THE POSITION
Senior Civil Engineer – Land Development | Tampa, FL VHB is on the lookout for a talented
Senior Civil Engineer
to become a key technical leader within our Land Development team in Tampa, FL.
This is more than just a job, it’s an opportunity to engage in a dynamic engineering team, leveraging advanced, technology-enabled solutions while working across diverse disciplines with environmental scientists, transportation planners, and others to build more resilient communities. At VHB, you’ll work on a wide range of land development projects of varying sizes and complexities, contributing directly to innovative design and implementation.
Our extensive Florida portfolio includes work with national homebuilders and mixed-use developers, healthcare and commercial clients, industrial and hospitality leaders including amusement parks, and numerous municipal and government agencies. We are proud to support State DOTs, local municipalities, and private clients on major initiatives such as Water Street Tampa and The Grow.

Responsibilities
Collaborate with design and production teams to prepare site/civil engineering plans and specifications for a wide range of land development projects
Lead preparation of land development engineering documents including grading, drainage, utility, and permitting plans
Provide senior-level technical support and quality oversight during design and documentation phases
Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations to ensure high technical quality
Participate in meetings with clients, review agencies, and other stakeholders to discuss technical requirements and permit-related issues
Provide technical guidance during the Construction Administration phase, including review of submittals and field questions
Mentor and support the development of junior engineering staff, providing guidance on design approaches and technical standards
Lead technical execution on small, medium, and large-scale engineering projects
Assist with technical content for proposals and collaborate with teams to pursue project opportunities
Skills and Attributes
Highly proficient in:o AutoCAD Civil 3Do Microsoft Projecto MS Office Suite
Strong working knowledge of multidisciplinary collaboration in land development
Deep understanding of site layout, grading, drainage, and utility design principles
Familiarity with Florida land development codes, construction standards, and permitting processes
Working knowledge of construction materials, detailing, and design standards
Experience with sustainable design practices including LEED and Envision principles
Innovative approach to civil engineering challenges and design solutions
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Attention to technical detail with ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written
Comfortable working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
Demonstrates technical leadership with potential for continued growth
Interest in expanding technical knowledge and contributing to proposal development
Qualifications
BS in Civil Engineering or related field
8+ years of progressive site/civil engineering experience on complex land development projects
PE license required; Florida licensure preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months
Advanced technical skills in site layout, grading, stormwater management, and utility design
Strong experience in preparing site plans, construction documents, technical reports, and specifications
