Mechanical Design Engineer – Sheet Metal & Tooling Duration:

Job Summary Becton Dickinson (BD) is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer responsible for the design and development of sheet metal components, machine guarding, tooling, and fixtures, including complex assemblies and subassemblies. The engineer will work closely with cross‑functional teams to deliver safe, efficient, and cost‑effective design solutions that support BD’s manufacturing and automation systems.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop sheet metal components, assemblies, and subassemblies for medical device manufacturing equipment.

Create machine guarding designs ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Design tooling, jigs, and fixtures to support manufacturing, testing, and assembly processes.

Develop 3D CAD models and detailed 2D drawings using industry-standard CAD tools (Creo, SolidWorks, etc.).

Conduct tolerance stack‑up analysis and apply GD&T principles to ensure high precision.

Collaborate with manufacturing, automation, and quality teams to implement design improvements and resolve issues.

Support prototype fabrication, testing, and validation of designs.

Ensure all designs meet BD’s engineering and quality standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

3–7 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably within medical device or manufacturing environments.

Strong experience with sheet metal design, tooling, and fixture development.

Proficiency in CAD software (Creo, SolidWorks, or equivalent).

Understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and design for manufacturability (DFM).

Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.

Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Skills

Experience in regulated industries such as medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or life sciences.

Familiarity with ANSI, ISO, and FDA design standards.

Hands‑on experience supporting equipment build and validation in a production environment.
