Base pay range $100,000.00/yr - $140,000.00/yr
Description Responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining fixtures and testers used in the testing of components and sub-assemblies within the automotive industry. The candidate must demonstrate an advanced understanding of mechanical concepts, including pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and have practical working experience in creating drawings, designing, managing, and implementing projects.
Roles and Responsibilities
Estimate cost and level of effort for:
New product launch
Continuous Improvement projects
New product launches within an existing product line
Interface with customer engineers and visit customer locations as needed
Manage launches for new product lines
Mentor less experienced Engineers
Serve as technical lead for a team of Engineers and Associate Engineers
Interface and collaborate with Controls and Instrumentation Engineers, Software Controls Engineers, Product Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, Quality Engineers, Maintenance Technicians, and Calibration Technicians
Design, implement and maintain:
Advanced industrial equipment such as testing fixtures for automotive components
Advanced component testers for various automotive parts
Pneumatic and hydraulic presses and testers, including fixturing and control
Collaborative or industrial Robotics Projects
Automation projects
Control and testing for hydraulic and pneumatic systems
Motion control projectsPneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical safety designs
The creation of standards and architectures for:
Electrical and mechanical designs
Pneumatic and Hydraulic designs
Project management documentation
Preventative and/or Predictive maintenance documents
Advise on the status of equipment to determine necessary repairs, redesigns, or rebuilds
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s or advanced Engineering degree or equivalent experience (8-11 years)
Practical experience and demonstrated knowledge of the following skills:
Computer-Aided Design (CAD): Proficiency in software like Inventor, AutoCAD, Solidworks and CATIA for creating detailed 2D drawings and 3D models, and GD&T
3D assembly simulation
Finite Element Analysis (FEA): Expertise in using FEA tools to analyze and optimize designs
Product Lifecycle Management (PLM): Experience with PLM systems to manage the lifecycle of a product from inception to servicing to replacement
Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Knowledge of DFM principles to ensure designs are easy and cost-effective to manufacture
Material Selection: Understanding of various engineering materials, including metals and plastics, and their applications
Prototyping: Ability to create and test prototypes to validate design concepts
Mechanical Systems Knowledge: In-depth understanding of mechanical systems and components
Structural Analysis: Capability to perform structural analysis to ensure the integrity, agronomy, and safety of designs
Hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical concepts
Automation and robotic cell design
Ability to understand regular operation of equipment with minimal documentation
Strong communication skills, Lean and continuous improvement mindset
Organized, skilled in project management, technical writing, and thorough in documenting work
Problem solving and troubleshooting skills
