Welder II Valkyrie Enterprises is looking for a Welder in our Norfolk, VA office. They will play a key role in welding on Naval Ships. The job is located in Norfolk, Virginia. Base pay range

$24.00/hr - $28.00/hr Job responsibilities

Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and rough sketches. Use drawings and specifications to plan welding operations. Ensure that work is in accordance with relevant codes and standards. Interpret welding symbols IAW MIL-STD 22D. Provide skilled welding on steel and aluminum plate, shapes, and CS/CuNi/NiCu/SS pipe in the repair of or alteration of vessels and associated equipment. Locate and mark reference lines (center, buttock, and frame lines). Fabricate templates for bending, shaping, and bracing metal structures. Set up and use portable burning/heating torches and plasma cutters. Collaborate effectively in a team environment and mentor junior welders in drawing interpretation, joint design requirements, specific welding technique (mirror welding), and processes. Oversee the progression of junior welder workmanship inspectors. Document fit-up, welds, and workmanship inspections. Comply with OSHA, shipyard safety, and environmental policies and procedures. May travel to jobsites away from the shipyard and use the company vehicle. May work beyond the standard work week, including weekends. Perform Fire watch duties. Qualifications

Must have a high school diploma or GED. Must have trade school with 5+ years of experience in the field. Must pass weld qualifications (2G, 3G, & 4G) SMAW, and GMAW processes. Must meet NAVSEA 248 requirements by passing MIL-STD 1689 T9074-AR-GIB-010-278 Weld Workmanship requirements. Desired qualifications

Welding certifications and experience with GMAW Aluminum and SMAW are preferred. Previous brazing experience is preferred. Previous TIG experience is preferred. Previous FCAW experience is preferred. Security requirements

Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance to access private and public shipyards and Naval Installations. Travel requirements

Up to 50% travel nationwide to include international travel as needed. May travel to various local shipyards for work. If travel involves domestic flights or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate identification credentials (e.g., REAL ID). Physical requirements

Must be able to lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment and boxes (minimum 20 lbs). Able to work on naval ships, climb ladders, work in extreme temperatures, in shipyards, and in confined spaces. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. Able to perform duties in high heat, humidity, noise, and dirty conditions; may work aloft or over the sides of vessels. Frequent exposure to noise; operate trucks, forklifts, and man-lift as required. May be required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands; frequent bending, reaching, climbing, and crawling. Work in extreme temperatures and areas with limited ventilation; frequent use of respirator may be required. Equal employment opportunity
