We are seeking a
Senior Tool Maker/ Machinist
to design, develop, and fabricate precision tooling, fixtures, and prototype components in support of production and R&D engineering. This hands-on role involves close collaboration with multiple departments to troubleshoot, refine, and optimize tooling processes while ensuring quality and manufacturability. Job Duties
Produce Tooling and Fixtures for the Assembly, CNC Machining, Engineering and Quality Departments. Produce prototype and validation components for R&D Department which fully meet drawing requirements, unless otherwise specified. Support the Assembly, CNC Machining and Quality Departments for issues like broken tools/fixtures/machine parts, stripped screws, stuck fasteners, sharpening/modification of tools, hand press refurbishment, fixture modification or repair, production component re-work, etc. Troubleshoot tooling issues and problems. Assist in Design for Manufacturing. Interface with vendors for special form cutters. Determine/assist methods of machining for prototypes and design transfer to production components. Advise/guide other employees regarding any aspect of tooling fabrication. Assist with special R&D projects, i.e., developing product with another company. Produce short runs or special product for Manufacturing Department. Perform other duties as assigned. Skills and Qualifications
Knowledge of precision tooling standards/codes is required. Ability to program and machine by CNC is preferred. Must possess knowledge and skills to use standard toolmaker measuring tools. Must be able to fabricate precision tooling/fixtures/components on a milling machine, tool room lathe, and a precision surface grinder. Must be able to choose the best tool (end mill, lollipop end mill, drill, tap, grinding wheel, fly cutter, etc) for every machining situation. Must be able to machine various materials such as 17-4 PH Stainless steel, A2 Tool Steel, carbide, both soft and hardened etc. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and solid geometry and trigonometry as necessary. Must have ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions. Accountabilities
Measure and report fabricated tooling and components to ensure they comply with blueprints. Contribute ideas on the most efficient, cost-effective way of making parts. Ensure all quality aspects of this position. Maintain a clean and safe working environment. Adhere to all Safety Procedures and advise others of safety requirements within the Model Shop. Education and Experience
Minimum of a High school diploma. Preferred High School Diploma with a Tooling/Machinist trade school diploma, or 2-year formal Apprenticeship. At least ten years of working experience in the capacity as a Tool Maker. Must be able to use Engineering background or education and computer experience helpful. What We Offer
