Under general supervision, perform and report routine and special laboratory tests on clinical specimens to aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients. Perform analyses in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, coagulation, blood bank and microbiology according to expected performance standards. Perform venipuncture, finger stick, or heel stick on identified patients as requested by the physician, in a timely, accurate and caring manner. Maintain documented records regarding maintenance and quality control; follow the laboratory\'s procedures for specimen handling, test analyses, reporting and maintaining patient test result records. Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens; adhere to quality control policies and document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance. Identify and communicate problems that may affect test performance or reporting of results; take corrective action or notify supervisors as appropriate; follow corrective action policies when test systems are not within acceptable performance levels. Document all corrective actions when test systems deviate from performance specifications. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Expectations

Comprehensive knowledge of safety, quality control, and specimen handling guidelines and procedures. Skill in using laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, meters, microscopes, incubators, pipettes, autoclaves, and sterilizers. Ability to work quickly and accurately under strict deadlines. Knowledge of clinical laboratory methods and instrumentation; working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, laboratory medicine, disease processes, and laboratory procedures. Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient and/or employee information. Must read, write and speak fluent English; regular attendance required. Education

Bachelor\'s degree in a chemical, physical, biological science, or medical technology from an accredited institution Licenses & Certifications

Current license issued by the State in which the laboratory is located, if such licensing is required Certification as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist by a nationally recognized agency/board preferred Experience

1-2 years of acute care hospital lab experience in high complexity testing preferred Employment type: Full-time Seniority level: Entry level
