The Intensive Day Treatment Therapist provides clinical services within the Intensive Day Treatment program, ensuring high‑quality therapeutic care, program compliance, and continuity of services. This position is responsible for assessment, treatment planning, therapeutic interventions, documentation, and clinical oversight of behavioral aides in the program.
Clinical Responsibilities
Adheres to all standards relative to the program
Assesses, screens, and reviews appropriateness of all patients for intensive day treatment programs
Enrolls patients in Intensive Day Treatment program
Completes Extension of Stay notes according to standards
Reviews, approves, and reconciles all weekly intensive day treatment notes in a timely and accurate manner
Completes court petitions for patients who need involuntary hospitalization (as needed)
Completes DHR report for any suspicion of neglect or abuse (mandatory reporter)
Provides effective clinical assessment of the patient
Utilizes assessment data to support a DSM‑5 diagnosis
Completes DLA‑20 upon admission, every 3 months, and upon discharge from the program
Provides individual and/or group therapy for at least an hour weekly utilizing basic therapeutic models and theories according to patient needs as stated in the treatment plan
Develops, implements, and regularly updates individualized CCBHC treatment plans every 90 days with measurable goals and objectives. Ensures plan is person‑centered, recovery‑oriented, meets medical necessity, and obtains signatures each time the plan is created, updated, and/or revised
Demonstrates the ability to recognize the elements of a crisis state and knows how to deescalate or resolve the situation
Effectively collaborates with the treatment team members and outside sources in the delivery of clinical services
Seeks referrals and actively works to increase the census of the program
Evaluates the patient for discharge planning
Links patient with appropriate program upon discharge from Intensive Day Treatment and follows up to ensure appropriate hand‑off care
Effectively demonstrates the application of adult specific competencies
Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, including psychiatrists, nurses, behavioral aides, supervisor, and case managers
Maintains timely and accurate clinical documentation in accordance with agency, state, and federal guidelines
Participates in treatment team meetings, clinical supervision, and staff training as required
Adheres to any duties assigned by the supervisor
Adheres to professional code of ethics
Supervision and Consultation
Seeks clinical supervision and consultation as needed
Accepts and employs suggestions for improvement
Actively works to enhance clinical skills
Clinical Record Keeping
Documents in a timely fashion per AltaPointe policy
Documents appropriate, complete, and clinically comprehensive mental health assessments
Documents measurable and specific problems, goals, and objectives in the treatment plan
Documents in a clear and concise manner the types of patient problems, treatment goals and objectives addressed, services, and techniques used, patient response and progress and plan for continued services
Documents case disposition, case closings, follow‑up and referrals
Documents legibly and provides credentials with each signature
Case Load Management
Effectively manages caseload based on patient needs
Meets AHS productivity standards
Ensures census of intensive day treatment program is maintained
Courteous and respectful attitudes towards patients, visitors and co‑workers
Treats patients with care, dignity and compassion
Respects patients privacy and confidentiality
Is pleasant and cooperative with others
Assists visitors and patients as needed
Personal values do not inhibit ability to relate and care for others
Is sensitive to patients needs, expectations and individual differences
Is gentle and calm with patients and families
Administrative and Other Related Duties as Assigned
Completes Environmental rounds (if assigned)
Active participation in Performance Improvement activities
Active participation in AHS committees as required
Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner
Accesses appropriate community resources according to patient needs
Follows AHS policies and procedures
Maintains current license and requirements for renewals (i.e., CEU’s), if applicable, and attends required in‑services and workshops
Qualifications Master’s degree in counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Marriage & Family Therapy, or a related mental health field. Prior clinical experience in mental health or substance use treatment, day treatment or structured treatment settings strongly preferred. Knowledge of adult specialty, outlined below, is to be attained within (6) six months of employment.
Knowledge of psychiatric disorders in the adult population
Knowledge of cultural diversity
Knowledge of CCBHC
Knowledge of behavior management, crisis intervention and interventions common to acute psychotic patients, as well as non‑violent crisis intervention practice
Knowledge of educational methods appropriate to adults and senior adults with psychiatric disorders
Knowledge of psychiatric rehabilitative principles
Must be license‑eligible
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
