Senior R&D Food Chemist
Growing innovative Food & Beverage manufacturer is experiencing significant growth, and with that comes exciting opportunities. We’re seeking a Senior R&D Food Chemist to join our dynamic team. This is a 3 month contract-to-hire role, but can be direct hire for the right candidate.
Pay rate range : $35–45/hr
Location : San Fernando Valley, CA
Role Overview
The Senior Chemist will be responsible for the development, enhancement, and matching of products using both existing and new raw materials. This includes calculating product costs, creating master formulas, and overseeing prototype evaluations. The role may also involve supervising and mentoring other chemists and lab technicians.
Key Responsibilities
Independently develop innovative products based on customer and internal requirements
Match competitor products and improve existing formulations
Evaluate project feasibility in terms of production, technology, and cost
Perform cost analysis and propose pricing for developed products
Develop and maintain product formulas and specifications
Collaborate directly with customers and provide technical support, including on-site assistance during first‑time production runs
Provide training and support to junior chemists and lab technicians
Assist in organizing sample guidelines and policies
Serve as R&D point of contact in the manager’s absence
Support Quality Control and Production teams during initial production processes
Perform additional duties and special projects as needed
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Food Science, or a related discipline
Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in an R&D bench role
Proven expertise in R&D and laboratory work
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
Effective communication and teamwork abilities
