The Work You Will Do:
The Environmental Specialist assists with field work in conducting environmental investigations and serves as contract and project management of contaminated sites. This is an intermediate technical position requiring knowledge in aspects of environmental site assessment and project management. The Environmental Specialist II will assist in the completion of site investigation field work that is associated with suspected soil and groundwater contamination. The ES II will also work with the public, department personnel, contractors, municipalities, and government officials in conducting these activities. The Difference You Will Make:
The Environmental Specialist II within the Site Investigation Section works with technical and professional personnel, environmental consultants, interested parties and the public to investigate and assess sources of contamination throughout the state. How You Will Grow:

Knowledge of geology, hydrogeology, chemistry and Florida’s groundwater. Knowledge of GIS software. Knowledge of the concepts of environmental assessment, emphasizing workplan development and implementation. Knowledge of environmental assessment procedures and techniques. Technical/scientific knowledge of groundwater characteristics and geochemistry. Skilled in the use of personal computers and financial/technical spreadsheet development. Skilled in technical writing to summarize investigative findings in report format. Skilled in Project Management. Ability to learn monitoring well construction techniques and operate field equipment utilized during investigations. Ability to be physically capable of performing field work. Ability to work as a team member or independently, to plan, produce and contribute. Ability to communicate productively with numerous entities and provide information effectively in presentations. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to understand and apply appropriate rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to environmental programs. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Ability to travel for fieldwork and training. Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license. Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering, environmental science or one of the natural sciences and one year of verifiable related experience; or any combination of post-secondary education or verifiable related experience, as described above, for a total of five years. Other Job Related Requirements for this position:
Valid Driver License. Medical Monitoring. Must obtain within the first 6 months of employment the OSHA Safety Training Certification. POSITION OF SPECIAL TRUST REQUIREMENT:
This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP-422 (Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility). Any applicant being considered for employment must successfully complete a Level 2 State and National criminal history check as a condition of employment before beginning employment, and also be screened in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, F.S.
