The Position The State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is seeking a qualified and experienced individual for the position of Nurse Clinical Instructor. In this role, you will be directly responsible for developing curricula and delivering instruction in core nursing principles to elevate staff competency at Whiting Forensic Hospital, a maximum security forensic psychiatric hospital.

WORK HOURS: Full-time, 40 hours/week
WORK SHIFT: First shift, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday with occasional rotation to off shifts as needed to support educational needs of staff

Whiting Forensic Hospital specializes in providing inpatient services to individuals involved in the criminal justice system.
Selection Plan For Applicants with a non-CT RN license wishing to obtain a CT license via endorsement:
Review eligibility & documentation requirements for CT license by endorsement of an out-of-state license.
Complete a CT DPH online application: select “Registered Nurse” under “Public Health Practitioners” and start.
Request verification of your out-of-state license(s) electronically through the Nursys® System; select “Connecticut” to complete the transaction.

Purpose of Job Class In a state health care facility this class is accountable for developing curricula and teaching nursing principles to nursing and interdisciplinary staff.
Examples of Duties
In collaboration with interdisciplinary staff, assess educational needs and requirements of staff.
Understand and apply adult learning theory to educational programs.
Participate in development and revision of curricula.
Conduct research for evidence-based practice topics.
Deliver curricula to targeted groups, including instruction in theory and clinical experience.
Evaluate effectiveness of curricula via analysis of participation, feedback, and tests.
Participate in workshops for career advancement.
Instruct staff of all levels in orientation and other programs.
Supervise learning experiences of staff in programs and on patient‑care units.
Act as role model demonstrating professional behaviors.
Participate in continuing education programs.
Prepare and submit reports as required.
Maintain records of individuals in educational programs.
Protect human and civil rights of individuals and staff.
Participate on committees and recruitment processes.
Perform related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skill and Ability
Considerable knowledge of nursing principles and practices appropriate to the agency's specialty.
Knowledge of teaching, counseling, and evaluation principles and techniques.
Considerable interpersonal skills.
Oral and written communication skills.
Ability to develop curricula, interview, and identify applicants' potential.
Minimum Qualifications – General Experience Three (3) years of experience in hospital or institutional nursing as a Registered Nurse.
Minimum Qualifications – Substitutions Allowed
A Bachelor's degree in nursing may be substituted for one (1) year of the General Experience.
A Master's degree in nursing may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a teaching/training role.
Special Requirements
Must possess and retain a Connecticut RN license or a Multistate/Compact RN license.
Must be willing to travel as required.
