Job Summary
The Electrician I installs, maintains, operates, repairs and initiates repairs on building systems such as electric, electronic, electro‑mechanical controls, card access/security, fire alarm, communication equipment and related devices. The role also covers HVAC, cooling towers, pumps and other equipment. Essential Functions
Inspects, maintains, repairs and mentors employees, technicians and journeymen in the operation and maintenance of campus electrical, security card access and fire alarm systems. Act as first responder testing, troubleshooting, repairing and initiating repairs for all control systems, including electrical, electronic, electro‑mechanical, software program controls. Provides preventive maintenance services on electric, electronic and electro‑mechanical controls and documents work performed in the equipment maintenance history file. Maintains and develops operational, procedural and emergency response standards for Electrical, HVAC, Security Card Access and Fire Alarm systems. Assists Engineering staff in drawing review, inspection, trouble‑shouting for new Electrical, HVAC, Security Card Access and Fire Alarm Systems and equipment upgrades. Drives a motorized vehicle around campus to various campus buildings. Installs, repairs, alters and maintains pumps; estimates labor and materials needed to do the work. Cuts and threads pipe; drills or cuts holes through floors, walls, or ceilings containing asbestos. Other Functions
Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
Current, valid Massachusetts Journeyman Electrician's License. Possess a current, valid Class D driver's license. Experience as a Journeyman Electrician. Working knowledge of Massachusetts Electrical & NFPA Codes and their applications. Ability to read, interpret and work from plans, sketches and oral instruction. Ability to maintain accurate records, logs, etc. Knowledge of safety practices, preventative maintenance practices and the operation of standard testing equipment. Ability to frequently lift and carry objects of 50-100 lbs. Skill in using the hand, power, and measurement tools of the trade. Skill and ability to work independently. Massachusetts Public Safety Certificate of Clearance (6 months from hire to obtain). Metasys Facility Operators Certificate (6 months from hire to obtain). Asbestos Abatement Worker Certification (6 months from hire to obtain). Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Frequent lifting and carrying objects of 50-100 lbs; standing for long periods in enclosed, hot, and moist spaces. Work with a respirator on, climb ladders, and work on scaffolding. Perform repetitive movements: balance, carry, pull, push, stand, bend, climb, drive, reach, sit, twist, lift. Additional Details
Maintenance function includes overtime and returning to work between shifts when directed or called. Incumbent responsible for updating service desk with current phone number. Work Schedule
