STRUCTURAL PEST II TECHNICIAN (FULL TIME)

Overview This full-time position focuses on landscape pests including weeds, insects, disease and other disorders. The applicator is versed in proper application methodology including calibration, application procedures and timing, weed/insect/fungus identification and physiology. The applicator will coordinate with the IPM Coordinator to assure quality and safety on site as required by OSHA, ANSI, EPA, State and local agencies as they apply to landscape and grounds management or facilities tasks as assigned.
Responsibilities
Follows standard operating procedures for the management of pests including rats, mice, termites, cockroaches, spiders, bedbugs, ants, fleas, bees, wasps, bats, skunks, possums, squirrels and raccoons.
Posts warning signs and locks building doors to secure area to be fumigated.
Implements quality standards; conducts and documents follow-up inspections.
Handles and stores pesticides.
Operates truck equipped with power spraying equipment.
Calibrates, maintains and repairs equipment.
Properly utilizes basic IPM delivery tools and equipment.
Stays current on practices and all local, state, and federal codes and regulations related to IPM for structural pest maintenance.
Records all work activities performed.
Cleans work site after completion of job.
Attends required training to maintain commercial applicators license for Pest category.
Maintains effective written and oral communication with supervisor and staff members.
Performs all work in a safe manner for the employee and general public.
Assists in emergency response due to inclement weather, i.e. snow and ice, tornado or other crisis.
Implement Standard Operating Procedures for the management of the above described and directed by the IPM Coordinator.
Responsible to maintain records for all work or services performed including rigid records for pesticide applications.
Light maintenance and repair of equipment.
Attend training as required to maintain commercial applicators license for all categories which may include Lawn and Ornamental(3A), Nursery Plant Production(3B), Pasture and Rangeland(1C), Vegetation Management(5), Aquatic(6), and even Structural licenses in (P)est, (T)ermite, (LO) Lawn and Ornamental and (W)eed categories.
Ensure that department policies, procedures and ethic codes are adhered to.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Two years of experience in performing IPM applications or equivalent education.
Must obtain a State Certified Applicator license in Pest category within 90 days.
Understands pesticide labels and instructions, pesticide handling/storage, equipment calibration, application procedures/timing and proper utilization of basic IPM delivery tools and equipment.
Working Conditions
Extensive walking and equipment operation. Exposure to extreme weather conditions, pesticides, fertilizers and pollen-producing environments. 90% physical labor, 10% training and misc.
