Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible For Product Quality Engineering (PQE). Responsibilities Include
Quality assurance of GaAs/InP products manufactured in Sherman, TX
Quality representative in new product introduction (NPI) team, responsible for ensuring appropriate quality‑related aspects of new design are done with individual contribution or leading/facilitating the new product introduction team.
Customer interface on quality issues during development, including correlation work and quality‑related specifications.
Ensuring outgoing quality assurance (OQC) is designed and executed properly.
Leads material review board (MRB) activities throughout product life. Includes internal execution and disposition, and customer interface for customer related MRBs.
Owner for returned material (RMA) disposition and analysis, including corrective actions (CCARs, 8Ds, SCARs etc.) – from start to finish
Participate in internal audits on two or more factory processes during the year and follow‑up on actions if there are any findings.
Education & Experience
Minimum 7 years’ experience: experience in product quality preferred but not required
Education: BS/MS in Engineering or Statistics or equivalent degree. Electrical Engineering preferred
Knowledge of GaAs/InP semiconductors a plus.
Skills
Strong interpersonal, teaming, and problem‑solving skills. Calm, rational, unemotional approach to problem‑solving.
Work effectively with other members of Coherent operations, development engineering, operations engineering, and other teams
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with customers, including customer‑presentable reports. This position requires significant customer interaction, sometimes in stress situations involving product failures.
Strong background in practical application of statistical and quality tools
Ability to organize and manage daily work across many different tasks
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Salesforce tools. JMP proficiency highly desired.
Working Conditions
Working with other engineers and with data.
Work in a class 100/1000 clean room part of some days
Wear full cleanroom attire (smock, mask, etc.) part of some days.
Some (quarterly) travel required.
Physical Requirements
Nearly all work is with computer.
Ability to move in a cleanroom.
Ability to sit at a computer and in meetings for long periods of time, including at offshore time zones.
Safety Requirements All employees are required to follow the site EHS procedures and Coherent Corp. Corporate EHS standards.
Quality And Environmental Responsibilities Depending on location, this position may be responsible for the execution and maintenance of the ISO 9000, 9001, 14001 and/or other applicable standards that may apply to the relevant roles and responsibilities within the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System.
